Overview
This site is designed to help compare the environmental impact of fashion items more easily.
We analyse publicly available product information and compare items relative to similar products in the same clothing category. The comparisons highlight differences within a category, rather than making absolute claims about environmental impact.
How comparisons are made
Each item is assessed using available information such as:
materials and fabric composition
country of origin
design features related to durability or end-of-life
relevant certifications where disclosed
These inputs are applied consistently across products to understand how items perform relative to comparable alternatives.
What the comparisons do and do not show
The comparisons shown on this site:
indicate relative environmental performance, not absolute impact
apply within the same clothing category only
take into account impacts related to climate change, habitat loss, toxin release and circularity
The comparisons do not:
take into account labour conditions, wages, animal welfare or other ethical considerations
represent a certification, approval or endorsement
No fashion item is impact-free. The aim is to make it easier to identify lower-impact options within a category, using the information that is available.
Independence and transparency
Products are assessed independently using a consistent methodology. We may earn affiliate commissions from qualifying purchases, but commissions do not influence inclusion or ranking.
Why Amazon
Amazon is used as the initial source of data because of the scale and availability of its product information. The approach is intended to be extensible to other retailers and brands over time.
